2024 Year in Review
It's been a year of exciting growth at the Ohio River Way! As we take stock of all that we've accomplished over the past year, we want to express our sincere gratitude to our partners and members who have helped us along the way.
December Along the Way
As the year winds down, we want to take a moment to thank everyone who joined us at our coalition meeting last month. This season of gratitude reminds us how fortunate we are to have such a dedicated group of individuals working together to support river communities and protect our waterways.

We've been busy installing new water trail signs to help guide and welcome visitors along the Ohio River Way! These signs are an exciting step forward in enhancing navigation and promoting the unique beauty of our river communities. With each new marker, we're making the Ohio River more accessible and enjoyable for everyone—from weekend paddlers to seasoned adventurers.

The Top 7 Hikes Along the Ohio River
There are endless trails along the Ohio River that offer a truly unique experience with a mix of scenic landscapes, rich history, and abundant wildlife. From dense woodlands and rolling hills to panoramic river views, these hiking spots provide a beautiful escape into nature while showcasing the Ohio Valley’s cultural and ecological significance. Along the way, you’ll encounter historic sites, Native American earthworks, and habitats for rare bird species and other wildlife. Here are some of our favorite hikes near or along the Ohio River.

A Case to Expand the Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge
The Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge (ORINWR) has been a cornerstone of conservation and recreation since its establishment in 1990. Managed by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS), this refuge currently spans 22 islands across West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky in the upper 470 miles of the Ohio River, playing a crucial role in protecting vital habitats and providing recreational opportunities.

“A Boatload of Knowledge”: Paddling 250 miles on the Ohio
